Attempted to blow up people in the center of Kharkiv - SBU detained a couple of Russian agents

The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a couple of Russian agents who were preparing a terrorist act in the center of Kharkiv. This was reported by UNN with reference to the SBU.

Details

According to the investigation, the perpetrators made a homemade bomb, which they were supposed to plant in the central part of Kharkiv and detonate remotely during the largest gathering of people. Their Russian handlers hoped to provoke panic in Kharkiv in order to destabilize the socio-political situation in the frontline city.

The detainees turned out to be a local married couple of drug addicts who came to the attention of the occupiers, who were looking for "money for a dose" in Telegram channels.

After recruitment, the defendants received instructions from a handler from the Russian Federation on how to make an improvised explosive device (IED) from improvised means. At the next stage, the agents found the object of the planned terrorist attack and "agreed" it with the Russians

After the arrest, during searches, a ready-made improvised explosive device, remnants of explosive components, mobile phones for remote activation of the explosion, and a smartphone with evidence of contacts with a Russian intelligence officer were found and seized.

The detainees were notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation for committing a terrorist act by prior conspiracy by a group of persons). The defendants are in custody - they face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
