Alina Polozyuk won the first medal in the history of Ukraine at the World Championships in women's foil. The Ukrainian fencer won bronze at the world championship in Hong Kong, defeating three-time world champion and world ranking leader Martina Batini from Italy in the quarterfinals. Starting from the 1/32 finals, the Ukrainian defeated bronze medalist of the 2026 European Championships Maria Marino (15:6), and then knocked out China's representative Huang Qianqian — 15:6. In the 1/8 finals, Alina achieved an extremely difficult victory over Moldova's representative Adeline Senik — 10:9.

In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian celebrated one of the loudest victories of her career, confidently defeating the world ranking leader, three-time world champion and seven-time European champion Martina Batini from Italy — 15:9. Alina brilliantly started the bout, landing nine consecutive touches and taking a 9:0 lead. This victory guaranteed the athlete an award at the world championship!

In the semifinals, the Ukrainian foil fencer lost to another titled representative of Italy — multiple world and European champion Arianna Errigo (7:15), finishing the performance with a bronze award.

This is the first medal for Ukraine in women's foil in the history of the World Championships. For Alina Polozyuk, this year's world championship is the fourth in her career. In 2023, she became the first Ukrainian foil fencer to step onto the individual podium of a Grand Prix series tournament. She also has a bronze medal from the European Championships in the team event, two team medals from the World Cup, an award from the Junior World Championships, two medals from the Cadet and Junior European Championships, and three awards from the U-23 European Championships
