A second consecutive final for PSG or a Bayern comeback: preview of the battle for the Champions League final
Kyiv • UNN
Bayern and PSG will determine the Champions League finalist after a 5-4 first-leg scoreline. The Munich side are the favorites for the return leg according to bookmakers.

Today, May 6, the second finalist of the 2025/2026 Champions League season will be determined. At the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich will host Paris Saint-Germain, featuring Ukrainian Illia Zabarnyi. The winner of the tie will face London's Arsenal in the final on May 30 at the Puskás Aréna in Hungary, UNN reports.
Details
The match at Bayern's home stadium in Munich, the Allianz Arena, will kick off at 22:00 Kyiv time.
The first leg between the teams gave fans a true spectacle, as the sides combined for 9 goals, with PSG emerging stronger in a 5-4 victory.
Bayern forward Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute, after which Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Neves put PSG ahead. Bayern equalized through Michael Olise, but before halftime, Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty to make it 3-2.
In the second half, the Parisians quickly extended their lead: Kvaratskhelia completed a brace, and Dembélé scored his second goal of the game. Bayern responded with goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz, narrowing the gap to a minimum, but were unable to equalize.
Over the weekend, the teams played their domestic league matches. In Ligue 1, PSG played a 2-2 draw against Lorient with a reserve squad.
Meanwhile, Bayern, who have already been crowned German champions, played out a hard-fought 3-3 draw with underdog Heidenheim.
The Munich side will be without winger Serge Gnabry, who has been sidelined with an injury for a long time, while the Parisians will miss goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as well as key defender Achraf Hakimi.
What you need to know
Both teams continue to set scoring records. This is the first time in the tournament's history that two teams have scored over 40 goals. PSG has 43 goals, Bayern has 42, and Barcelona's record (45 goals in the 1999/00 season) no longer seems unattainable.
To set the record for the highest-scoring two-legged knockout tie in Champions League history, the teams need to score four goals in the second leg, which is entirely realistic given that Bayern and PSG feature the main challengers to the current top scorer Kylian Mbappé (15 goals) — Harry Kane (13) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (10).
Bayern leads PSG in head-to-head Champions League victories with a score of 9:7, but it is perhaps unwise to seriously speculate on a favorite before the meeting in Munich.
Furthermore, if PSG defeats Bayern, they will reach the tournament final for the second consecutive year. In the 2024/2025 Champions League season, PSG crushed Italy's Inter 5-0 in the final.
Bayern hopes to reach its 12th European Cup/Champions League final (and its first since 2020). Back then, Bayern faced PSG in the final and secured a narrow 1-0 victory. Reaching the final would allow them to take second place in history, overtaking AC Milan (11). Only Real Madrid (18) is ahead.
