President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France on June 16, the Kyiv Independent reports, citing two sources familiar with the matter, according to UNN.

The meeting was the first face-to-face encounter between Zelenskyy and Trump in nearly four months, as Kyiv seeks to revive stalled peace talks with Moscow, the publication writes.

The three leaders joined a joint working session with other G7 leaders, where Russia's war against Ukraine is a central topic of discussion.

"Notably, they were the last three leaders to enter the room," the publication points out.

On June 15, Zelenskyy stated that he hopes Trump will help facilitate a trilateral meeting involving himself and Putin in the United States. "If Russia refuses this opportunity as well, pressure will be needed," he said.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for direct negotiations with Putin. Putin has stated that he "sees no point in meeting with Zelenskyy."

Trump has previously signaled support for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine as a path to ending the full-scale war.
