Macron wants to organize a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump - CNN

A possible meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump was the first thing French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about while welcoming the Ukrainian leader at the Hôtel Royal, where the G7 summit is taking place, CNN reports, according to UNN.

Details

"So, first of all, do you have any bilateral meeting organized... with President Trump?" Macron was heard asking Zelenskyy, as the publication writes, before offering to "organize it."

Trump's official schedule does not include bilateral talks with Zelenskyy, but impromptu meetings can, and often do, occur during such summits.

One of the most significant past meetings between Trump and Zelenskyy was unplanned and took place on the sidelines of Pope Francis's funeral last April. That meeting was their first since a "disastrous" Oval Office encounter, and it served as a sort of turning point in their "complicated" relationship, the publication notes.

Addendum

French President Emmanuel Macron held a brief bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of this morning's main G7 gathering in Evian, France, the Elysée Palace reported.

As the host of the meeting, Macron invited Zelenskyy to attend on the sidelines of the summit, hoping his presence would help bolster the group's support for Ukraine.

"A key part of the mission is to engage US President Donald Trump," the publication emphasizes.
