Today, on the second Sunday of August, everyone can join the celebration of World Calligraphy Day, UNN reports.

Calligraphy is the art of writing in legible, beautiful and clear handwriting.

Calligraphy originated almost simultaneously with writing more than five thousand years ago in Mesopotamia. The first mention of calligraphy in China dates back to the second millennium BC. In Europe, calligraphy began to develop on the basis of the Latin alphabet, and its heyday was in the Middle Ages, when many handwritten copies of the Bible and other Christian texts were made.

The art of calligraphy combines ancient traditions that have evolved over thousands of years in different cultures. Today, there are many varieties of this written art: Western European, Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Islamic, etc. The formation of each of them has a huge impact on the development of calligraphy in general.

On August 14, animal rights activists and wildlife lovers can join the events dedicated to the International Lizard Day.

Lizards are one of the largest groups of terrestrial vertebrates in terms of numbers. Today, more than six thousand species of these reptiles are known. Lizards can live in the ground, on trees, rocks, and near water bodies.

The largest lizard is the Komodo Varan, which can reach three meters in length and weigh up to 140 kilograms. But there are also dwarf species. In particular, the round-toed gecko, which weighs no more than 200 grams and its length does not exceed 1.5 centimeters.

Lizards play an important role in the ecosystems where they live. Many lizard species are now on the verge of extinction due to human activity.

August 14 is also Tattoo Removal Day.

This date was not chosen by chance. Tattoo Removal Day is set exactly one month after Tattoo Day, and six months after Valentine's Day, when many people get tattoos on emotion, but quickly start to regret it.

Millions of Telegram users can celebrate its birthday on August 14. It was on this day in 2013 that it was launched for smartphone users. A week later, iPhone users could download the app as well.
