From September 1, Ukrzaliznytsia will raise the salaries of more than 150,000 employees by 10–15%, with priority given to professions in short supply. Minister Kalashnyk linked this to the indexation of freight tariffs, the next stage of which is scheduled for January 1, 2027.

Ukrzaliznytsia to raise salaries from September 1: who will be paid more

From September 1, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" plans to raise salaries for more than 150,000 employees. Ukraine's Minister for Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport Mykola Kalashnyk announced this on August 14 on his official Telegram channel, reports UNN.

The increase will amount to 10–15%, with priority given to representatives of professions in short supply.

From September 1, salaries at Ukrzaliznytsia will be increased. The increase will amount to 10–15%, with priority given to professions in short supply, and will affect more than 150,000 employees," Kalashnyk said.

According to him, the additional financial resources will primarily be directed toward paying employees who repair locomotives and railcars, restore railway infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks, and ensure the movement of trains.

The official said that he had discussed the issue of salary increases with railway workers, the management of "Ukrzaliznytsia," the company's supervisory board, and members of parliament.

The salary increases are linked to the indexation of freight tariffs

Kalashnyk also recalled that one of the ministry team's first decisions was to support the indexation of Ukrzaliznytsia's freight tariffs. According to him, the government understands that raising tariffs creates an additional burden on businesses, but the company needs funds to ensure transportation, carry out repairs, and restore infrastructure.

"We understand that this is not an easy decision for businesses. But the railway needs resources for transportation, repairs, and restoration after Russian attacks. And no less importantly—for its people," the head of the relevant ministry stressed.

According to him, the next stage of freight tariff indexation is scheduled for January 1, 2027. This is expected to make it possible to continue the phased review of railway employees' salaries throughout the following year.

Ukrzaliznytsia is expected to communicate detailed information about the upcoming salary increase directly to employees in the near future.

"Equipment can be repaired. Infrastructure can be restored. But the railway operates thanks to its people. Railway workers risk their lives every day, and their pay must be brought back to a dignified level," Kalashnyk concluded.

At the beginning of 2026, the government adopted a decision stipulating that employees of energy companies, housing and utilities enterprises, and "Ukrzaliznytsia" involved in emergency restoration work would receive a 20,000-hryvnia salary supplement.
