During a meeting in Kyiv, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko and Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Energy, Business and Industry of Sweden Abba Bush discussed how to deepen cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the nuclear industry.

Cooperation in the nuclear industry between our countries is a priority. We have been able to show other countries that the future of the nuclear industry is possible without Russia: Ukrainian Energoatom experts worked together with specialists from the Westinghouse plant in Sweden to create a technology that allowed us to use Western-made fuel in Soviet VVER reactors. This fuel is now successfully operating at the Rivne NPP.

- said the head of the Ministry of Energy.

The parties agreed on the prospects of deepening cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in order to further oust Russia from the market of nuclear fuel and nuclear technologies in Europe.

The importance of developing nuclear power in Ukraine to strengthen the resilience of the energy system was also noted.

We remain committed to the goals of the green transition. At the same time, the Ukrainian experience gained during the recent war years proves that it is important to have a strong basic generation for the stability of the power system. For Ukraine, this basic generation is nuclear power, which helped us survive the third winter of war.

 - said Herman Halushchenko.

Abba Bush noted that renewable energy plays a leading role in Sweden, which largely depends on variable factors, including weather conditions. At the same time, the experience of Ukraine, which is living in a war, has proved the importance of stable and reliable generation, which is essential for the energy security of countries.

You cannot build a power system only for peacetime... That is why Sweden plans to develop not only renewable energy, but also nuclear energy. And we see significant potential in cooperation with Ukraine in this area.
