U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced new sanctions against high-ranking Cuban officials. This is reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

It is noted that this is part of a months-long effort by the Trump administration to "increase economic and security pressure on the island."
Trump signed an executive order introducing new sanctions against entities, individuals, or affiliates that support the Cuban regime's security apparatus, are complicit in government corruption, or serious human rights violations
The order also allows the State Department and the Treasury Department to impose even greater economic penalties against anyone associated with those under sanctions.
The publication points out that Trump has repeatedly threatened the "left-wing Cuban government" amid intensifying U.S. efforts to deprive Cuba of fuel and funding.

On April 19, the U.S. and Cuba held their first negotiations in 10 years. The meeting took place in Havana and served as a signal of a possible diplomatic shift between the countries.
