US President Donald Trump convened an emergency meeting in the White House Situation Room due to the threat of renewed war with Iran within days. This was reported by Axios, citing two unnamed US officials, UNN reports.

It is noted that on the morning of April 18, Trump gathered key officials in the White House. Among those present were, in particular, US Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The situation with Iran is at a critical point, the ceasefire is expected to end in three days, and the final date for a new meeting between US and Iranian negotiators has not yet been determined.
The publication indicates that despite the escalation in the strait, the parties managed to achieve some progress on issues of Iran's nuclear program, in particular regarding enriched uranium reserves. Currently, Tehran is considering new US proposals, transmitted through the mediation of Pakistan.

The Iranian authorities announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz and accused the United States of "violating agreements." At the same time, in the Persian Gulf on Saturday, April 18, several oil tankers turned back after trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
