The "Ramstein" meetings are working, but European leadership could delay the implementation of decisions. The participation of the United States is a signal to Putin, and the priorities at the meeting are air defense and artillery.

There are risks with the timing of the implementation of decisions, but the presence of the USA can be a signal to Putin - Chernev on today's "Ramstein"

The "Ramstein" format meetings remain working, but due to the fact that recently the initiative in them has been with representatives of Europe, in particular Germany and Great Britain, the decisions taken at these meetings may wait for years to be implemented. Meanwhile, the continued participation of the US Secretary of Defense may be "a certain signal" to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This opinion was expressed on the telethon by the head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, People's Deputy Yegor Chernev, reports UNN.

When asked how the change of power affected the efficiency of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine ("Ramstein"), Yegor Chernev noted that this is still a working platform. However, to hedge, an alternative platform was created at the NATO summit in July last year, so that if "Ramstein" "falls apart", it would be possible to coordinate all these countries through the NATO format.

He also noted that it was then voted that a certain amount of funds would be allocated for the next 5 years to help Ukraine.

"Now "Ramstein" exists, it is still a working platform, but Britain and Germany have taken over the leadership there. It was not expected that the US Secretary of Defense would be there, but at the last moment he still agreed to be present there," Chernev said.

He associates the presence of the United States with the fact that it is a kind of "wake-up call" to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin against the background of the delay in peace negotiations.

"This is a certain signal that the United States is not so much returning with aid to Ukraine, but participating in collective formats to help," Chernev said.

Regarding the effectiveness and prospects of this platform without the direct participation of the United States, Chernev noted that under such conditions, the decisions taken at the meetings may be implemented for too long.

"Due to the fact that European countries are taking over the leadership there, I think that the coordination of efforts will be. They are becoming more involved because they understand that without the participation of the United States, they have to take on more responsibility. The only problem is that in the EU, a lot of time passes from the decision to its implementation. And now they seem to have become more active in security issues, including their own, but until it really starts working, it seems to me that it may take not months, but even years," he summed up.

What will be discussed at "Ramstein" today

Chernev noted that Ukraine's priorities remain unchanged, and the Armed Forces have two most pressing issues today.

"First of all, we need air defense, both the systems themselves and missiles for them, this is what we depend on our partners, to a greater extent precisely on the United States. The second priority is artillery, shells for artillery. We are already producing NATO standard shells, but this is not enough to cover all the needs at the front," said the head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO PA.
