A magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Colombia has claimed the lives of 224 people. Cali, Valle del Cauca, and Risaralda were the hardest hit.
The number of people who died as a result of the powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook a large area of southwestern and central Colombia rose to 224 on Tuesday, according to reports from local authorities in the areas most affected by the earthquake, UNN writes, citing Reuters.

The epicenter of the earthquake, the strongest recorded in Colombia so far this century, was located near the municipality of San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó, at a depth of 103 kilometers, the Colombian Geological Service reported.
In the city of Cali, the capital of the department of Valle del Cauca, 95 deaths, 949 injuries, and 45 structures that had completely or partially collapsed were recorded, according to Mayor Alejandro Eder.
The governor of the department of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, reported a further 38 deaths in cities and municipalities other than Cali.
Meanwhile, authorities in the department of Risaralda counted 72 fatalities, while Chocó reported 13. The Manizales mayor's office reported five deaths, and the governor's administration in Antioquia reported one.
