The prosecutor's office has brought the case of the murder of Irina Farion to court. The 18-year-old resident of Dnipro, who shot the public figure over the language issue, faces life in prison.

"Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office have completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted to the court an indictment against an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro on charges of murdering a public figure, MP of the VII convocation, Iryna Farion," the statement reads.

Based on the collected evidence, the actions of the accused were reclassified.

He is charged with the intentional murder of a person related to the performance of a public duty, on the grounds of national intolerance, as well as illegal possession of firearms (paragraphs 8, 14, part 2, article 115, part 1, article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that on July 19, 2024, in Lviv, the defendant shot the victim with a pistol from a distance of about two meters and fled the scene. The woman died the same day from a penetrating gunshot wound to the head in a hospital.

"The evidence confirms that the murder was committed because of the victim's performance of a public duty and for reasons of national intolerance. The accused has expressed a belief in "national discrimination against Ukrainian citizens who speak Russian". Iryna Farion, who was known for her position on the protection of the Ukrainian language and culture, allegedly split national unity by her actions. On the basis of which the defendant had an intention to kill her," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

At the request of the prosecutor's office, he was previously remanded in custody without the possibility of bail, which was extended until January 12, 2025.
