The bandits reportedly terrorized residents of frontline towns, imposing "tribute" on businessmen and organizing robberies. In this way, they undermined the internal situation in the region and tried to increase their influence on the crime situation

- the SBU said.

In particular, the gang leader tried to "extort" half a million dollars from the owner of a private medical facility. According to the case file, if the offender received the full amount from the victim, he planned to kill him and bury his body in a forest outside the city.

To commit the crime, the man involved two gang members.

The criminals had been following the entrepreneur for a long time: they studied his daily routine, travel routes, and circle of close acquaintances.

The gang members were supposed to kidnap the victim and take him out of town in the trunk of a car, where they prepared a "grave" for him.

SBU officers detained the leader and members of the gang on an attempt to kidnap the victim near his home.

During the searches, the detainees' belongings were seized:

  • balaclavas, a shovel, gloves, tape and ties, which the defendants prepared for the robbery and murder;
  • cell phones with evidence of criminal activity.

The leader of the gang was served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery committed by an organized group under martial law).

The offender is in custody. The issue of bringing to justice all members of the group is being settled.
