SBU serves notice of suspicion to international mercenary of the Russian Federation who tortured civilians during the occupation of Kyiv region
Kyiv • UNN
The SBU announced a suspicion against the commander of the 'Wolves' unit, Davor Savičić, for torture. The Redut PMC militant abused civilians during the occupation of the Kyiv region.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor's Office have served a notice of suspicion in absentia to international mercenary Davor Savičić, who, while fighting on the side of the Russian Federation, was involved in torture and ill-treatment of civilians during the occupation of the Kyiv region in 2022. This was reported by the SBU, according to UNN.
The mercenary commanded the "Wolves" unit
According to the investigation, the individual in question is 46-year-old Davor Savičić – the commander of the "Wolves" sabotage and reconnaissance unit, who holds citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation.
The SBU noted that Savičić is on the radar of INTERPOL and the law enforcement agencies of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to his participation in illegal paramilitary groups and armed conflicts during the breakup of Yugoslavia.
He is also under sanctions from the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
Investigators established that at the end of 2021, Savičić joined the Russian PMC "Redut" and was engaged in recruiting mercenaries for the "Wolves" unit.
In February–April 2022, this unit operated as part of the Russian Federation's "Vostok" (East) troop grouping and participated in the occupation of settlements in the Bucha and Vyshhorod districts of the Kyiv region.
The mercenary ordered the torture of a civilian in the forest
According to the SBU, the occupiers were based in a forest between the villages of Shybene and Krasnyi Rih in the Bucha district.
The investigation documented that in the village of Fedorivka, Savičić ordered the detention of a local resident who was hiding from shelling in a shelter.
"Together with a group of armed Russian military personnel, he forced the man to undress, after which the captive, with his hands tied, was taken to the forest," the report says.
There, according to the investigation, the mercenary personally beat the civilian with the butt of an assault rifle, trying to force him to give false testimony for Russian propaganda media.
Additionally, Savičić's subordinates tied the man to a tree next to a grenade with the pin pulled.
The SBU reported that after he refused to cooperate, the occupiers ordered the man to dig a pit, where he was held for seven days without food or water.
Occupiers kidnapped the wife of an ATO participant
Furthermore, the investigation established Savičić's involvement in the torture of the wife of an ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) participant in the urban-type settlement of Ivankiv.
The woman was illegally detained in a van without food, light, or heating.
During interrogations, according to the SBU, the mercenary threatened her with physical violence and demanded information about the Ukrainian military and the recording of an interview for Russian propagandists.
After the de-occupation of the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers discovered the body of the woman's husband in one of the pits at the occupiers' base.
The individuals involved in his murder are currently being identified.
Savičić served with a notice of suspicion for war crimes
Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators served Davor Savičić a notice of suspicion in absentia under Part 2 of Art. 28 and Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – war crimes committed by a group of persons upon prior conspiracy.
The documentation of the crimes was carried out by employees of the Main Directorate of the SBU in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, together with the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
