In Khmelnytskyi, the SBU counterintelligence thwarted a terrorist attack and detained an FSB agent who planned to detonate an improvised explosive device in a crowded area where military personnel were present. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.

Details

According to the investigation, the perpetrator intended to carry out the explosion remotely. To increase the number of casualties, he planned to call the police to the site of the explosive device with an anonymous call, so that the device would detonate at the moment of the law enforcement officers' arrival.

SBU officers uncovered the preparation of the crime at the reconnaissance stage and detained the agent "red-handed" as he was surveying the site of the future terrorist attack.

It was established that the perpetrator was a local resident recruited by the Russian special service, who was looking for money through Telegram channels. After recruitment, he received instructions on how to make an improvised explosive device and was collecting information about the locations of Ukrainian military personnel.

During searches, a ready-made explosive device and a phone with evidence of cooperation with the enemy were seized from the detainee.

The suspect has been notified of suspicion of treason committed under martial law. The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SBU urged citizens to report suspicious activity or recruitment attempts.
