A russian court has arrested multiple world chess champion Garry Kasparov and three other opposition figures in absentia, charging them with leading a terrorist community, financing terrorist activities and justifying terrorism.

Chess player Garry Kasparov, as well as former russian state duma deputy Gennady Gudkov, former eco-activist Yevgenia Chirikova and opposition politician Ivan Tyutrin were arrested in absentia by a syktyvkar court.

The opposition activists were accused of leading a terrorist community, financing terrorist activities and justifying terrorism. They were given a preventive measure in the form of detention for two months from the moment of their possible detention by law enforcers.

The court said in a statement that the case against the politicians was initiated on the basis of materials of the fsb department in the komi republic.
