SBU Counterintelligence has detained an FSB agent in Kharkiv who was planning bombings in the city center. Twelve kilograms of improvised explosives were seized from the perpetrator.

Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented a new series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv. As a result of preemptive actions, an FSB agent who was preparing a series of explosions in the frontline city was detained in the regional center. This was reported by the SBU press service, according to UNN.
As the investigation established, the suspect received instructions from the Russian Federation to manufacture two improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The bombs were to be based on 12 kg of explosives, which he was supposed to manufacture himself and equip with mobile phones for remote activation
The perpetrator planned to plant the finished explosives in the central part of the city and "report" to his FSB handler.
The Rashists also hoped to detonate the devices during rush hour when the concentration of civilians on the streets of Kharkiv is at its highest.
SBU officers exposed the enemy's plan in advance and caught the agent "red-handed" in June 2024 in a rented apartment. At that moment, he was on a video call with a Russian special service officer who was instructing him on how to manufacture the IEDs.
According to the case files, the FSB's task was carried out by an unemployed resident of the Kirovohrad region recruited by the enemy. He came to the attention of the Russian special service while looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels.
After recruitment, the Rashists dispatched the agent to Kharkiv. There, he rented accommodation and purchased components for manufacturing homemade bombs.
During searches, more than 12 kg of explosives, other IED components, and mobile phones, which he changed to maintain conspiracy in his contacts with the FSB, were seized from the detainee.
Security Service investigators served the agent a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 14 and Part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation for the commission of a terrorist act by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).
Following the completion of professional expert examinations initiated by the SBU, additional qualification of the suspect's crimes for illegal manufacture and handling of explosives is planned.
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
