President of the European Council Costa: the best guarantee of Ukraine's security is accession to the EU

António Costa stated that joining the European Union is the best security guarantee for Ukraine. He added that Ukraine is making progress towards EU membership.
The best security guarantee for Ukraine would be its accession to the European Union. This was stated by the President of the European Council, António Costa, during a conference in Brussels "Europe: Strength through Crisis", reports UNN.

At the same time, he did not give any forecasts regarding the time frame for Ukraine's possible accession to the EU.
The best security guarantee for Ukraine is joining Europe, and we are on the right track - the European Commission's assessment is very positive regarding what Ukrainians are doing to prepare for accession.
According to him, Ukraine, while at war, is implementing the reforms necessary to join the EU. At the same time, he does not know when Ukraine will join the EU, because the process itself is "based on merit".
I don't know if it will be in 2030, 2028, 2032, I don't know. As you know, this is a merit-based process and they are achieving results. Maybe it can be earlier, maybe only in 2030, I don't know. The main thing is not the date, but the process and the common will to achieve this
The politician also noted that Europe needs to prepare for the future reconstruction of Ukraine. Thus, at the last meeting of the European Council, the European Commission was instructed to build a "large coalition of willing parties" in terms of the country's reconstruction, because this "requires significant efforts from the international community."
