Plans to transfer a gas-fired power plant from Germany to Ukraine have sparked political disagreements

Germany plans to transfer a power plant to Ukraine that has been out of operation since Russian gas supplies ceased; however, this decision has sparked political disagreements. This was reported by Bild, according to UNN.

Details

As the publication writes, since Russian gas supplies through the Nord Stream pipeline in Lubmin near Greifswald stopped, the local gas-fired power plant's operations have been suspended. The plant became economically unviable, and attempts to sell it proved unsuccessful.

Therefore, as part of humanitarian aid, the power plant will be provided to a Ukrainian power plant operator on a self-pickup basis

Compared to demolition and disposal, this will not result in economic losses.

However, "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) opposed the transfer of the facility. The party demanded in the Bundestag that the plant remain in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania — in case relations with Russia ever normalize after the end of the war in Ukraine.
