Opposition in Venezuela reports that their headquarters in Caracas was destroyed overnight

Armed men stormed the opposition headquarters in Caracas, looting and destroying it. The United States and other countries call for the publication of detailed election results, considering the opposition candidate to have won.

Armed hooded men broke into the Venezuelan opposition's election headquarters, looted and smashed it, the opposition movement Vente Venezuela reported today.

Tensions are rising in Venezuela following the disputed presidential election results. Today, the opposition movement Vente Venezuela announced that its headquarters in Caracas was vandalized overnight.

A group of hooded men broke into, kidnapped and destroyed the Venezuelan opposition's election headquarters.

Strong protests continue across the country after the election. At the same time, a number of countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States, have issued statements on the following:

  • election results should be verified impartially;
  • all political actors should avoid escalation of violence;
  • electoral disputes should be resolved through institutions.

At the same time, the United States said that Maduro should recognize the victory of the opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia. Argentina, recognized Gonzalez as the winner of the election.

According to Human Rights Watch, at least 20 people were killed during the protests in Venezuela. Nicolas Maduro of the Socialist Unity Party (PSUV) has been in office since the death of his predecessor and mentor Hugo Chavez in 2013. The country with rich oil reserves has been experiencing a deep economic and humanitarian crisis for years. Millions of Venezuelans have fled the country to escape poverty and corruption.
