According to FlightAware, the pilot took off from Linden Airport in New Jersey and was headed to Westchester County Airport, which is about 2.5 km from the crash site.
FlightAware's website lists Altisky Leasing One LLC from Smyrna, Tennessee, as the aircraft's owner.

New York Governor Kathy Gokul said in a statement that the crash was caused by an aviation gas leak. The state Department of Environmental Conservation is working on localizing and cleaning up .
“My thoughts are with the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I pray for the victim's safe recovery,” said New York Governor Kathy Gokul.
The New York State Police reported that the highway is closed northbound at Exit 2 and southbound at Exit 3. Local detours have been set up. Drivers were urged to avoid the area.
