In Odesa, a man has been suspected of killing his own cat

A 39-year-old man in Odesa brutally killed his cat after, according to him, it fell out of a window. He faces up to eight years in prison for animal cruelty.

Police have notified a resident of Odesa of suspicion for killing his cat, the National Police reported, writes UNN.

The incident occurred on the morning of July 20 on one of the streets in the Khadzhybey district of the city.
At the scene, eyewitnesses told law enforcement officers that their neighbor, holding his cat by the paws, beat it against the walls of a high-rise building, and after the animal died, threw it into a trash bin.
Police established that a 39-year-old resident of the same building was involved in the incident. While on the loggia of his sixth-floor apartment, he saw his domestic cat fall from a window and land on the ground near the building. After that, according to the man, to supposedly prevent the animal from suffering, he caused its death in a cruel manner.
Police seized the cat's body and sent it for a forensic veterinary examination.
Having gathered sufficient evidence, investigators notified the suspect of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely cruel treatment of an animal belonging to vertebrates, which resulted in the death of the animal, committed in an active manner. This crime carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to eight years.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
