NATO defense ministers have agreed to modernize the Alliance's nuclear capabilities and strengthen the nuclear planning system. This is stated in a statement by the NATO Nuclear Planning Group, reports Reuters, according to UNN.

The meeting participants emphasized that the Alliance's strategic nuclear forces remain the supreme guarantee of the allies' security and form the basis of NATO's nuclear deterrence system.
The ministers of the Nuclear Planning Group agreed to continue strengthening NATO's nuclear deterrence mission by modernizing the Alliance's nuclear capabilities, strengthening nuclear planning potential, and adapting to achieve our security interests
NATO also recalled that strategic nuclear forces remain a key element in the defense of member states.
The Nuclear Planning Group is the Alliance's primary forum for consultation and decision-making in the field of nuclear deterrence. It includes all NATO allies except France.
The decision was made against the backdrop of a deteriorating global security situation and increasing nuclear risks associated with Russia's actions, as well as the development of nuclear programs by other states.
