The assailant, armed with a registered carbine, killed four passers-by and a hostage in a store. Police eliminated the shooter after failed negotiations.

The man who carried out the shooting in Kyiv on April 18 had a registered carbine – he obtained the permit back in December 2025. This was reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, on the air of the telethon, as conveyed by UNN.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs personally arrived at the scene and commented to the media. According to the minister, the assailant did not voice any demands.
Klymenko added that the shooter started moving from Demiivska Street and fatally wounded four people along the way. The fifth victim was one of the hostages in the supermarket.
According to Klymenko, negotiations with him lasted about 40 minutes, but the shooter did not respond. At the same time, the Minister of Internal Affairs neither confirmed nor denied information that the neutralized terrorist was a citizen of Russia.

In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, an unknown person opened fire on people, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. Later, law enforcement officers reported that the assailant was killed during a special operation.
