At the request of the head of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Dmytro Prokudin, the Fastiv City District Court ordered the suspect in the murder of the 17-year-old girl to be held in custody without the possibility of posting bail.
The 28-year-old man is suspected of committing premeditated murder (paragraph 13, part 2, article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, on the night of June 17, the man inflicted a fatal stab wound on his acquaintance's daughter out of resentment while the girl was sleeping in her bed. He confessed to the crime. He faces life imprisonment.
The suspect is a serviceman who went AWOL (absent without leave) from his military unit. The man had previously been convicted of premeditated murder.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of the tragedy are being established.
Separately, within the framework of the criminal proceedings, a legal assessment will be provided regarding the actions of the deceased girl's mother, as well as the officials and services responsible for protecting the rights and safety of children, to determine the causes and conditions that may have contributed to the commission of this especially grave crime.
"The death of a child is always a tragedy, but in this story, the issue of adult responsibility is particularly acute. The Prosecutor's Office will fundamentally verify not only the circumstances of the murder itself but also the actions of all persons and services that were supposed to ensure the child's safety. Everyone whose inaction or improper performance of duties contributed to this tragedy will receive an appropriate legal assessment," noted the head of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Dmytro Prokudin.
