Japan plans a visit of government officials to the Russian Federation to maintain contacts and protect the assets of its companies. Tokyo denies any new cooperation and continues G7 sanctions.
Japan is considering sending government officials to Russia as early as late May to maintain contacts with Moscow and assist Japanese companies that continue to operate in the Russian Federation. This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to a statement by the Japanese Ministry of Trade on X, according to UNN.

The ministry noted that a trip by a government delegation to Russia is currently being planned, and under certain conditions, business representatives may also join it.
"It is necessary to protect the assets of Japanese companies remaining in Russia,"
They added that the Japanese government maintains contact with the Russian side at the state level to support these efforts.
Tokyo denies plans for new cooperation with the Russian Federation
The statement appeared after a Kyodo publication regarding the possible dispatch of a Japanese economic delegation to Russia to discuss cooperation issues after the end of the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Japanese Ministry of Trade denied information about seeking new formats of economic interaction with the Russian Federation.

Tokyo also stated that Japan will continue to coordinate its sanctions policy against Russia together with the G7 countries.
