A woman shot two drivers in Florida, claiming she was told to do so by God because of a solar eclipse, and was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

In the US state of Florida, a woman who said she was going to go on a shooting spree on God's instructions because of a solar eclipse shot two drivers, AP reports, citing the state highway patrol, UNN writes.

The woman reportedly checked out of a hotel and told staff that she was going to go on a shooting spree "as directed by God because of the solar eclipse," and then shot two drivers on an interstate highway before being arrested and charged with attempted murder on Monday.

22-year-old Taillon Nichelle Celestine from Georgia drove onto a highway 180 kilometers from the Alabama border in Florida's Panhandle and headed west. Within a radius of 8 kilometers, she fired several times at a passing car, hitting the driver's arm, the department said in a statement.

She then shot at the second car, wounding the driver in the neck. The driver was injured and hospitalized.

The police stopped the woman after she had traveled about 26 kilometers and found an AR-15 rifle and a 9mm pistol. She was arrested and booked into the Holmes County Jail. She was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and improper use of a firearm.
