The Romanian Ministry of Defense clarified: "On Friday, July 24, an F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force from the 86th Air Base in Fetești, while performing a mission to observe and track a drone that entered the national airspace, struck an aerial target with a missile and shot it down over an uninhabited area near the town of Padina, Buzău County."

"The radar surveillance system of the Ministry of National Defense detected an aerial target on Friday, July 24, at 09:39, at a distance of approximately 20 km east of Sulina, which entered the national airspace, on the route Sulina-Brăila-Fetești-Buzău. Two Eurofighter Typhoon fighters of the Italian Air Force from the 57th Air Base Mihail Kogălniceanu and two F-16 fighters of the Romanian Air Force from the 86th Air Base in Fetești, belonging to the Air Police Combat Service, took off at 09:48 and 10:56 respectively to monitor the situation," the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated.

As indicated, the population in Tulcea and Brăila counties was alerted - RO-Alert messages were sent.
