In Kyiv, fraudsters posing as the SBU swindled almost 1 million hryvnias from an 81-year-old pensioner

An 81-year-old Kyiv resident gave fraudsters $9,300, €4,000, and 320,000 hryvnias, believing she was suspected of high treason. A 24-year-old suspect has been detained; the money was transferred to a crypto account.
In Kyiv, fraudsters posing as employees of the Security Service of Ukraine defrauded an 81-year-old pensioner of 1 million hryvnias. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, writes UNN.
Under the procedural supervision of the Sviatoshyn District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv, a 24-year-old Kyiv resident has been notified of suspicion of fraud on an especially large scale
It was established that the 81-year-old woman was called and told that she was suspected of high treason and financing the aggressor country through the purchase of medicines at a pharmacy that were produced in the russian federation. Consequently, proceedings regarding collaboration activities are being investigated against her.
The victim, in order to remove all questions from the so-called law enforcement officers, agreed to cooperate. She was ordered to gather all her savings, put them in bags (each currency separately), and hand them over to an SBU employee who was supposedly coming to pick them up. Thus, the woman was defrauded of $9,300 USD, €4,000 EUR, and 320,000 UAH, totaling almost 1 million UAH.
Another elderly woman, whom the fraudsters used by convincing her that she was also helping the SBU, came to the victim for the money.
The woman handed over all the money to the 24-year-old suspect, who transferred it the same day to the crypto account of the organizer of the fraudulent scheme.
