Improper defense of Kharkiv region: court changed the preventive measure for Colonel Lapin

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has changed the measure of restraint for Colonel Illya Lapin, who is suspected in the case of improper defense in Kharkiv region. The court decided to change his measure of restraint from detention to round-the-clock house arrest due to his advanced age, numerous diseases, as well as deterioration of health.

This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, reports UNN.

Details

According to the Prosecutor's Office, prosecutors are conducting procedural management in criminal proceedings on the fact of negligent attitude of military officials to the service and unauthorized abandonment of the battlefield during the defense of Kharkiv region in May 2024.

It is noted that the prosecutor filed a motion to the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv to change the measure of restraint not related to detention for the former commander of the 415th Battalion of the 125th Brigade of the TRO, taking into account his advanced age, numerous diseases, as well as deterioration of health.  

Following the consideration of the prosecutor's motion, the court decided to change his measure of restraint from detention to round-the-clock house arrest with the possibility of leaving the household for treatment

Recall

The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation reported on the detention of generals responsible for the failed defense of Kharkiv region during the rashist offensive in 2024.

According to the case file, the defendants are a brigadier general, who held the position of commander of the operational-tactical group (OTU) "Kharkiv", a lieutenant general, who was the commander of the 125th separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a colonel, who previously headed the 415th battalion of this unit.

In March, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv left Colonel Illya Lapin, who is suspected in the case of improper defense in Kharkiv region, in custody. The court also ordered Lapin to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
