Germany to help Ukraine create ballistic missile defense

Germany and Ukraine have agreed to cooperate in the development of ballistic missile defense systems, particularly those against "Iskander-M" type missiles. This was reported by Defense Express, writes UNN.

Within the framework of the strategic agreement, the parties prioritized accelerating the development of missile defense systems. This includes not only the supply of weapons but also joint research, data exchange, and the development of the defense industry.

Why this is necessary
Existing Patriot systems remain effective but have limitations due to high cost, dependence on the US, and production rates. In particular, PAC-2 missiles are not designed to intercept ballistic targets.
In this regard, the creation of a cheaper alternative that can complement the existing air defense system is being considered.
Potential cooperation
This likely involves the joint development of new missiles, which could involve Ukrainian and European companies. In particular, the participation of German manufacturers such as Diehl Defence and MBDA Germany is being considered.
At the same time, Ukrainian developers are already offering their own solutions, which may be cheaper than Western counterparts.
