Germany has provided Ukraine with access to the satellite internet network of the French company Eutelsat, which is an alternative to Elon Musk's Starlink system. This was reported to Reuters by Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke, reports UNN.

Details

According to Eva Berneke, the company has been providing high-speed satellite internet service in Ukraine for about a year through a German distributor. The program is funded by the German government, but Berneke declined to comment on the cost.

According to her, there are currently less than a thousand Eutelsat terminals operating in Ukraine, which is significantly less compared to the approximately 50,000 Starlink terminals used in Ukraine. At the same time, she expects the number of Eutelsat equipment in Ukraine to increase.

Now we want to deliver 5 to 10 thousand terminals as soon as possible - possibly within a few weeks

- said Eva Berneke.

Answering a question about whether Germany will also finance this additional provision, Eutelsat spokeswoman Joanna Darlington said that the issue is being discussed.

Berlin has not officially confirmed funding for access to satellite internet for Ukraine. The German Foreign Ministry did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Recall

Elon Musk said that he will never disconnect Starlink terminals for Ukraine, despite his disagreement with the White House's policy. According to him, without Starlink, Ukrainian networks would be destroyed due to Russian jamming of communications.
