Temu has been fined 200 million euros for selling dangerous goods in the EU. The company must submit a plan to rectify the violations by August 2026.

The European Commission has fined the Chinese marketplace Temu 200 million euros for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). The company was accused of failing to properly assess the risks of selling illegal and dangerous goods to consumers in the EU, UNN reports, citing the European Commission.

The Commission stated that European consumers are "highly likely" to encounter illegal goods on the Temu platform.
In particular, the investigation showed that a significant portion of the tested chargers did not meet basic safety requirements, and children's toys contained dangerous chemicals or had parts that posed a choking hazard.
The European Commission also concluded that Temu underestimated the scale of risks to EU users and failed to account for the impact of recommendation algorithms and influencer advertising programs on the spread of illegal products.
"The failure to conduct a proper risk assessment is a particularly serious violation of the Digital Services Act,"
Temu has until August 28, 2026, to submit an action plan to address the violations. In case of non-compliance, the company may face additional penalties.
The European Commission opened a formal investigation against the platform back in October 2024.
