Equipment like in hospitals: Ukrzaliznytsia demonstrates medical evacuation train for the first time
Kyiv • UNN
For the first time, Ukrzaliznytsia has demonstrated a medical evacuation train equipped as a hospital, capable of providing emergency care and even performing surgeries on the move, to transport seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Medical Forces Command demonstrated a medical evacuation train for the first time. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of UZ.
Details
Starting in March 2022, the equipment of medical cars became more and more comprehensive, and resuscitation cars with oxygen stations, ventilators, blood transfusions, cardiac monitors, aspirators, and other equipment began to appear.
The first medical car, which has no analogues in the world, was created in early March 2022. At that time, there were no drawings or technical documentation, but there was a great need for such cars. Railroad workers and medics converted the first such car in 4 days. Today, the total number of railcars involved in medical evacuation in Ukraine is 62
In addition, the cars are autonomous, meaning they are powered by backup generators.
It is noted that the equipment of medical railcars is identical to that of a real hospital. This makes it possible to provide emergency medical care while on the move, so these cars can transport seriously wounded soldiers who cannot be transported by other means of transport.
Coordination and logistics play a key role in military medicine during war. After all, time is extremely important at any stage of medical care for a wounded or injured soldier and plays a key role in further treatment
The company adds that anesthesiologists, nurses, nurses, orderlies, and evacuation teams of railway workers work in cars. The medical equipment on board the train makes it possible to even perform surgery while the train is in motion in the most critical cases.
UZ also promises that by the end of 2024, the railroad will have converted 8 more of these cars for medical evacuation and to save the lives of Ukrainian defenders.
Recall
The Ministry of Defense reported that dozens of M113 armored personnel carriers equipped to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield have arrived in Ukraine, and hundreds more are expected in the near future.
