Court in Russia arrests another suspect in the Crocus attack

A court in Russia has arrested a 12th suspect, a 21-year-old Tajik citizen, for providing communications equipment and money to the accused in the deadly attack on Crocus City Hall.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow has arrested the 12th suspect in the case of the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow until May 22. This was reported by UNN with reference to Radio Liberty.

Details

The arrested man is a 21-year-old native and citizen of Tajikistan, Dzhumokhon Kurbonov. He lived in a hostel in Moscow. According to the investigation, Kurbonov provided the accused in the terrorist attack with means of communication and money to pay their bills. No other details were given about his involvement in the attack.

Kurbonov was detained on April 11. Initially, he was arrested for 15 days under an administrative article on disorderly conduct. This became known today.

Context

As reported, the attack on Crocus took place in the evening of March 22. More than 140 people were killed and more than 500 were injured. Almost all of those detained in connection with the attack are Tajik citizens. The alleged perpetrators faced torture during detention and interrogation.

The Islamic State terrorist group claimed involvement in the attack. The United States and other democratic countries are convinced that it organized the attack. The Russian side, however, continues to assert that Ukraine may be behind the perpetrators of the attack.
