Collapse at the Polish border - hundreds of passengers stranded at the "Shehyni" checkpoint

Massive traffic jams have formed at the "Shehyni" checkpoint due to repairs of bus lanes on the Polish side, forcing passengers to stand in queues for hours or cross the border on foot, UNN reports.

Details

On the Threads social network, users claimed that people had been waiting to cross the border for over 10 hours. It is reported that from 1:00 AM to 10:00 AM, only 2 buses passed through.

Another user wrote on Threads that she had been at the border for a long time.

It's time to talk; I simply have no words for the situation at the border. We have been standing since 1:00 AM and it is completely unknown how much longer we have to wait, or if they will let us through at all. Television crews have also arrived, but whether that will help at all remains to be seen

- the user writes on Threads.

According to the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as of 6:00 PM, there were 26 cars, 6 buses, and 20 pedestrians at the "Shehyni" checkpoint.

Pedestrian crossing is carried out in both directions

 - the report says.

Also, as of 3:00 PM, there were 588 trucks in front of the checkpoints.

Due to the risk of missing flights or connecting trips in Europe, people are resorting to radical actions; in particular, passengers are forced to leave buses in the middle of the road and cross the border on foot, carrying heavy luggage in their hands.

The 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment reported that an accumulation of vehicles entering Ukraine is also being recorded at this point. As of 7:30 PM, there were 50 cars there.

To avoid long waits in front of the checkpoint, we recommend choosing less busy checkpoints, as well as crossing the border in the early morning or late evening hours

- the detachment urged.

Note that the capacity of the checkpoint is 68 cars per hour. On June 10, it became known that starting June 15, 2024, large-scale repair work on the bus lane for exit from Ukraine to Poland would begin at the "Shehyni - Medyka" checkpoint. In connection with this, the passage of buses in the direction of Poland will be temporarily suspended.

At the "Shehyni - Medyka" checkpoint, bus departures to Poland will be suspended for almost a year and a half10.06.26, 12:38 • 12330 views
