The state news agency Xinhua, citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated that Trump will visit China on May 13-15 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The White House clarified that negotiations between the leaders of the U.S. and China are scheduled for May 14-15.
Beijing had not previously announced a date due to the situation in the Middle East
As Bloomberg notes, Chinese authorities were cautious about holding the summit until the situation surrounding the war with Iran stabilized.
According to the agency, it was the conflict in the Middle East that caused the postponement of the meeting, which was previously planned for April. Beijing did not confirm any visit dates at that time.
The topic of Iran is expected to be one of the key issues during the talks between Trump and Xi Jinping. Tensions between Washington and Beijing have risen due to the war and the energy crisis, as China remains one of Iran's main partners and the largest buyer of Iranian oil.
On the eve of the summit, China also invited the Iranian Foreign Minister to Beijing, which Bloomberg describes as a demonstration of the close ties between the countries.
