Another provocation by Russia: Mayor of Enerhodar explains whether yesterday's fire at ZNPP poses a threat

The mayor of Enerhodar, Dmytro Orlov, said that the fire at the plant on August 11 was a provocation by the Russians. According to him, there is nothing to burn in the idle cooling towers, and the radiation background is normal.
The fire that occurred at the occupied ZNPP on August 11 is an outright provocation by the Russians. This was stated by the mayor of Enerhodar, Dmytro Orlov, in a commentary to the project "Radio Liberty", UNN reports.
Details
He explained that the cooling towers in which the fire occurred were used in the technological process for additional cooling of raw water that is in the cooling pond for the NPP reactors.
The cooling towers have not been operating for quite some time. They usually work in the summer and when a significant number of power units are operating there, because some of them were periodically under repair. Now, since all the units are in a cold state, they are not working at all, there is nothing to burn there. Unless the occupiers have put something there that can burn. There are only metal structures and reinforced concrete. Therefore, there was nothing to burn there physically
According to him, thus, the occupiers are once again trying to blame the Ukrainian military for the attacks on ZNPP.
The occupiers are probably making such provocations there in order to attract attention and accuse the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The distance to the operating power units, to the nuclear facilities, is quite significant - about a kilometer to the nearest power unit
He also assured that there is no danger at the moment - the radiation background in the vicinity of the ZNPP is normal.
Therefore, in terms of any nuclear radiation hazards, there are none. The radiation fund is now normal, the same as it was before
Help
A cooling tower is a specialized heat exchanger in which heat is removed from the water primarily by latent heat loss during evaporation in contact with the air flow.
Recall
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a fire on the territory of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plantset by Russian occupiers. He emphasized that the situation cannot be normal while the plant is under Russian control.
