A large Russian refrigerated vessel "Crystal Asia" caught fire off the coast of South Korea near the city of Busan, injuring six Russians as a result. The incident occurred in the morning of March 26, 8 km from the port of Gamcheon, writes UNN with reference to Yonhap.
According to the Busan Coast Guard, on the 26th at 7:14 a.m., a fire broke out on a Russian refrigerated vessel with a carrying capacity of 7,534 tons, which was located 8 km south of the port of Gamcheon and was detected by a Coast Guard patrol boat
It is noted that the Coast Guard urgently sent seven patrol ships, including rescue boats, as well as an aircraft, to extinguish the fire and rescue the crew members.
Of the 23 people (22 of them Russians) on board the ship, six were injured. Two people with severe burns were evacuated by helicopter, the remaining four with minor injuries - by a coastal rescue boat.
The fire was extinguished 40 minutes after it was detected. The cause of the accident is probably related to an engine failure, which caused an explosion. The incident is being investigated by the Coast Guard.
