Zaporizhzhia is a city located in the southeastern part of Ukraine on both banks of the Dnipro River. The city's area is 331 square kilometers, and its population as of January 1, 2022, was 710,052 people. The city is the administrative, industrial, and cultural center of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The history of Zaporizhzhia dates back to ancient settlements on Khortytsia Island, and its modern formation began with the founding of the Oleksandrivsk fortress in 1770. The city became a key industrial center of Ukraine thanks to the construction of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant and related enterprises.
