The calendar for May 28 is primarily focused on important human rights initiatives, global health issues, and the fight against social inequality. This day serves as a platform for many international organizations to draw attention to topics that require urgent solutions – writes UNN

Amnesty International Day

The holiday was established in honor of the founding of this independent human rights organization in 1961. This day serves as a reminder of the critical importance of protecting human rights and fighting against political persecution, torture, and unlawful imprisonment worldwide.

International Day of Action for Women's Health

The main goal of this date is to draw the attention of governments and society to the issues of women's access to high-quality and safe medicine. Special emphasis is placed on protecting reproductive rights, preventing specific diseases, and providing proper psychological support.

Menstrual Hygiene Day

The initiative is aimed at overcoming social stigma and ensuring access for girls and women to basic hygiene products, especially in developing countries. The date of May 28 was chosen symbolically: the average cycle lasts 28 days, and menstruation itself lasts an average of 5 days (the fifth month).

World Hunger Day

This day was created by The Hunger Project to draw attention to the millions of people who live in conditions of chronic malnutrition every day. The campaign calls for the implementation of sustainable economic and agricultural solutions to finally overcome poverty and ensure food security on the planet.

World Blood Cancer Day

A global medical campaign that calls on healthy people to register in bone marrow donor databases. It emphasizes that stem cell transplantation often remains the only chance of survival for thousands of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other severe diseases of the hematopoietic system.

Independence Day of Azerbaijan

A public holiday marking the proclamation of the independent Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918. This date symbolizes a historical stage in the formation of a sovereign state.

Republic Day in Armenia

A national holiday established in honor of the proclamation of the independent First Republic of Armenia, also in 1918. It is usually accompanied by official celebrations and honoring the memory of national figures.

Hamburger Day

A popular unofficial culinary holiday widely celebrated in the USA and many other countries. On this day, food establishments often organize themed promotions, and cooking enthusiasts compete in creating original signature recipes for this world-famous dish.

Church Commemorative Dates

According to the new (Revised Julian) calendar, on May 28, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Saint Nikita the Confessor, Bishop of Chalcedon. According to the old (Julian) style, believers remember Saint Pachomius the Great.
