The calendar of May 29 combines the honoring of people who have dedicated their lives to preserving peace, the celebration of outstanding achievements of human endurance, as well as important medical initiatives. This is a day when historical triumphs are remembered and attention is drawn to global social challenges – writes UNN

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers

This is an extremely important date established by the UN General Assembly to honor the dedication and courage of peacekeepers serving in the world's hotspots. On this day, the international community pays tribute to those who died while performing peacekeeping missions, protecting civilians and helping conflict-affected countries transition to peace.

International Everest Day

The holiday is dedicated to a historical event: it was on May 29, 1953, that New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first people in history to successfully conquer the world's highest peak – Mount Everest (Sagarmatha). This day is celebrated by climbers and travelers around the world as a symbol of the indomitability of the human spirit, endurance, and the desire to conquer new heights.

World Digestive Health Day

An initiative launched by the World Gastroenterology Organisation on the day of its foundation (1958). Each year, the campaign focuses on a specific disease or gastrointestinal problem to increase public awareness regarding prevention, proper nutrition, timely diagnosis, and treatment of digestive system diseases.

National Biscuit Day

A popular gastronomic holiday most widely celebrated in the United Kingdom and the USA. This day is dedicated to a dessert loved by many, whose history spans more than one century. It is a great opportunity for culinary experiments, sharing homemade baking recipes, or simply enjoying a pleasant tea party with friends and family.

Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day

One of the most unusual and humorous unofficial holidays. The tradition originated in the era before modern refrigerators and, according to belief, symbolized wishes for prosperity and large food supplies in the home. Today, it is simply a funny excuse to take a cheerful photo for social media and lift the spirits of yourself and your loved ones.

Church Commemorative Dates

According to the new (Revised Julian) calendar, adopted by the OCU and the UGCC, on May 29, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Virgin Martyr Theodosia of Tyre. According to the old (Julian) calendar, believers remember Saint Theodore the Sanctified (known among the people as Fedir the Grain-Grower).

According to the new style, men named Oleksandr, Andrii, Bohdan, Ivan, Kostiantyn, and Luka, as well as women named Mariia and Faina, celebrate their name day. According to the old style, the name day celebrants are Oleksandr, Heorhii (Yurii), Yefrem, Kasiian, Lavrentii, Mykola, Fedir, and among women – Muza.
