U.S. at UN: China is a decisive accomplice in rf's war against Ukraine
Kyiv • UNN
The US ambassador to the UN has accused China of supplying military components to Russia for the war with Ukraine. China supplies materials for bombs, parts for weapons factories and technology for drones.
China is a decisive accomplice in Russia's war against Ukraine. If the PRC really wants a “peaceful resolution” to the war, it should stop supplying the Russian war machine. This was stated by Robert Wood, the US permanent representative to the UN, at a UN Security Council meeting, reports UNN.
Wood noted that China's support for russia clearly contradicts the principles of the U.N. Charter. China has told this council that sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected, but if China were serious, it would use its influence to prevent russia from violating Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Let's look not at China's words, but at its actions. China continues to supply russia's military industrial base with dual-use goods, such as bomb-making materials, machine parts, equipment and tools for weapons factories, and technology that powers drones and missiles. russia needs these Chinese goods for its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure. Chinese companies are supplying them, profiting from them. By continuing to allow these exports, Beijing telegraphs tacit approval of russia's war. And Chinese companies have even helped develop and produce long-range strike drones for russia,” the U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations said.
If China really wants a “peaceful resolution” to Russia's war against Ukraine, he said, it should cut off supplies for the Russian war machine, impose sanctions on russia, call on russia to withdraw its troops and lead the international community as a permanent member of this Council responsible for defending the principles of the UN Charter.
“Instead, China is a crucial enabler of russia's war against Ukraine and has refused to use its influence constructively. It has given russia political cover by repeating russia's false justifications for war and suggesting that we ignore the UN Charter because 'the situation on the ground has changed.' China suggested that we should not link Russia's aggression in Ukraine to the DPRK's pursuit of nuclear weapons, while it is clear that Russia is helping the DPRK with its nuclear ambitions in exchange for troops and weapons to use against Ukraine. As for russia, china has demonstrated that it is not a legitimate actor in the world.
In that council, China laid out its three principles for war: “no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of conflict, and no provocation. But China stood aside when russia violated all three principles by dragging the DPRK into the conflict. russia sent nearly 12,000 DPRK troops, including elite special forces, to fight in Ukraine.
russia has also violated numerous resolutions of this council by importing from the DPRK more than 20,000 shipping containers of munitions containing at least 6 million heavy artillery shells and more than 100 ballistic missiles. China has considerable influence over both Moscow and Pyongyang, but it has refused to use that influence to counter Russian-DPRK military cooperation,” Wood added.
