Ukraine records first diesel price drop - where fuel became cheaper

As of April 9, 2026, diesel fuel prices in Ukraine have started to decline. However, the trend is still localized, and the speed is low, UNN reports, citing price monitoring.

Thus, "Ukrnafta" reduced the price of A-95 Energy gasoline by 3 hryvnias, and as of now, drivers can purchase a liter of this fuel for 69.90 UAH. Meanwhile, a liter of diesel, whose popularity has soared due to the sowing campaign, costs 86.90 UAH at this gas station network. Thus, the price fell by 1 UAH per day.

Fuel prices also became somewhat lower in Odesa. The OKKO gas station network offers a liter of Euro diesel for 92.90 UAH on April 9, and DP puls currently costs 95.90 UAH/liter.

What is the fuel situation in the capital of Ukraine?

In Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, fuel prices remain unchanged compared to April 8. In particular, for A-95 gasoline. According to price monitoring data, in both cases, the lowest cost of this type of fuel was 61.99 UAH per liter at Shell gas stations. Thus, the price change for the specified period was 0 UAH.

The average price for this type of fuel is currently from 70.99 to 74.90 UAH per liter. Car enthusiasts are offered to buy gasoline at this price by the gas station networks Marshal, AMIC, Market, MANGO, KLO, UPG.

The most expensive gasoline of this brand currently costs at WOG gas stations: there, a liter of fuel will cost 77 UAH.

Diesel also did not change in price during the day.

The lowest diesel price was recorded at Shell gas stations, where a liter of fuel cost 61.99 UAH on both days. At BRSM-Nafta gas stations, diesel was sold for 88.99 UAH per liter.

In the mid-price segment, the cost of diesel fuel also remained unchanged. In particular, at MANGO and Marshal gas stations, a liter cost 89.99 UAH, at UPG and BVS — 90.90 UAH, at Avantage 7 — 90.95 UAH, at Market and AMIC — 90.99 UAH.

At the same time, in the higher price segment, diesel was also sold without changes. At SOCAR, the price was 91.99 UAH per liter, at KLO — 92.50 UAH, at OKKO — 92.90 UAH, and at WOG — 93.00 UAH.

Fuel prices in Ukraine in April: context

After the US decision to postpone a massive strike on Iran and take a pause for negotiations, oil on international markets sharply fell in price. The price of Brent fell to approximately 94 dollars per barrel, and if Iran really unblocks the Strait of Hormuz, quotes may continue to decline: first to 85-90 dollars, and closer to June, under a favorable scenario, stabilize at 65-70 dollars per barrel.

At the same time, as predicted by Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, this price reduction will not be felt quickly at Ukrainian gas stations.

The fuel that will be sold in April was purchased at high prices, so diesel, in particular, may continue to rise in price for some time. A noticeable decrease in the cost of motor fuel is possible no earlier than May, if the situation in the Middle East continues to normalize.

- Omelchenko is convinced.

The expert also reminded that on average about 20 days pass between the change in oil quotes and the appearance of a new resource at Ukrainian gas stations at updated prices. In addition, he drew attention to the peculiarity of the Ukrainian market: when oil becomes more expensive, prices at gas stations rise almost immediately, and when it becomes cheaper, the decrease on the steles appears much later. According to him, in the case of April prices, this is partly explained by objective reasons, but the further situation will depend on the development of events in the Middle East.

Instead, economist Oleh Pendzyn calls not to sound the alarm. The expert is convinced: it is too early to talk about diesel at 100 hryvnias per liter. According to him, there is no such price at gas stations now, although the cost of diesel fuel has almost reached 97 hryvnias.

Pendzyn emphasized that one should not escalate the situation and scare people with inflated estimates. He explained the high price of diesel by a seasonal factor.

Now the demand for it has increased due to spring field work, and this directly affects the cost. That is, the price increase is associated not only with external markets, but also with the internal needs of the agricultural sector, which actively purchases fuel during this period.

- said Pendzyn.

At the same time, the further movement of prices, according to his assessment, will depend on the situation on the world oil market and on whether logistics can be stabilized. If tensions in the Persian Gulf decrease and world oil prices go down, then a decrease in prices at Ukrainian gas stations can be expected.
