Ukraine's Foreign Ministry established its first ministerial-level contacts with the new Syrian government after the severance of diplomatic relations. Ukraine also sent 500 tons of flour to Syria as part of the Grain from Ukraine program.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has announced the first contacts with the new Syrian government at the ministerial level. This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhyi during a press conference, an UNN correspondent reports .
The work on Syria is actively ongoing. We have made statements outlining Ukraine's readiness to restore diplomatic relations. We will see how the new government will act
He recalled that diplomatic relations between Syria and Ukraine were severed because the government of Bashar al-Assad did not recognize the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
“If the policy changes, we will restore diplomatic relations. In addition, contact has already been established with the new Syrian government, in particular at the ministerial level,” the spokesman said.
Mr. Tykhyi also added that the grain sent to Syria was not a separate action.
“Indeed, the provision of this humanitarian aid is not a separate action - it is a broader attitude of Ukraine towards the Syrian people... This is part of a broader policy and you will see other steps in the future,” he said.
