Trump estimated that the US would finish with Iran in 2-3 weeks

US President Donald Trump said that the American military could complete an offensive against Iran in two to three weeks and would hand over responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz to countries that depend on it for oil supplies and shipping, UNN reports with reference to AP.

Trump predicted that the US would end the conflict "maybe in two weeks, maybe a few days longer. But we want to destroy everything they have."

Despite repeatedly listing four or five war aims, Trump said he had "one aim: they will not have nuclear weapons, and that aim has been achieved." He did not explain how he believed this aim had been achieved.

He said the US could reach a deal with Iran within the next few weeks, but added that if that doesn't happen, "we'll start making connections, we have a couple of good options. But if they come to the negotiating table, that will be good."

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt posted on X that Trump would "deliver an address to the nation to provide an important update on Iran" at 9:00 PM EDT on Wednesday (4:00 AM the next day Kyiv time).

Her post came shortly after Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday evening that American troops could leave Iran in "two to three weeks."

On Tuesday, Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with allies unwilling to provide significant support for US military efforts, telling them: "Go get your own oil." Recently, Trump has wavered between claims of progress in diplomatic talks with Iran and threats of an expanded war, the publication writes.

He stated that the US "will have nothing to do" with what happens next in this vital waterway, closed by the Islamic Republic. Instead, he said, responsibility for keeping the strait open would fall to the countries that depend on it. Persian Gulf states depend on this waterway for both exports and imports, including food, and 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes through it.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, gasoline prices in the US jumped above $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022, as the war with Iran continues to push up fuel prices worldwide. Analysts say these high fuel prices will also affect food products, as transportation and packaging costs for businesses increase.
