The Ukrainian national team won the team classification of the World Race Walking Championships, held in the capital of Brazil, thanks to the performances of three athletes who finished in the top 10 of the individual competitions. This was reported by the NOC of Ukraine, writes UNN.

Ukrainian track and field athletes became the best in the team classification in a new distance in the world championship program - the half marathon. In total, 333 athletes from 40 countries participated in the competition.

The victory was achieved due to the fact that all three Ukrainian representatives finished in the TOP-10 of the individual standings:

  • Hanna Shevchuk - 7th place;
    • Liudmyla Olyanovska - 8th place;
      • Maria Sakharuk - 10th place.

        According to the regulations, finishing places are converted into points, and the team with the lowest total wins. The Ukrainians scored 25 points, ahead of the teams of Spain (28 points) and Australia (30 points).

        This is Ukraine's third victory in team classifications at the World Championships level (after successes in 2014 in the 20 and 50 km distances). It should be noted that this distance will be included in the list of disciplines at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
