The New York-based auction house RM Sotheby's has put up for auction the Ferrari 248 F1, which was used by seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher to fight for the title with Fernando Alonso in 2006.

The Formula 1 car of the legendary German racer Michael Schumacher is up for sale in New York. The auction house RM Sotheby's has announced a new lot of Ferrari 248 F1, which the native of Hürth competed in the 2006 season.

The auction will begin on Thursday, November 14.The 2006 season was the last for the seven-time Formula 1 champion with the Italian team, with which he spent 11 years. The car with chassis number 254 brought Schumacher victories five times, allowing him to climb to the top step of the podium.

It was in this car that Michael set a new record for the number of pole positions, surpassing the achievement of his idol Ayrton Senna.The season was marred by only two retirements, but added to the German's treasury with four pole positions and seven victories.

The tense struggle lasted until the last race, but Michael Schumacher finished the championship in second place in the individual standings, losing the title to Fernando Alonso of Spain.
