NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported a conversation with Romanian President Nicușor Dan and said that during the call, he assured Dan of "NATO's absolute solidarity with Romania."

"I just spoke with Romanian President Nicușor Dan regarding the Russian drone that crashed into a residential building in Galați. I assured him of NATO's absolute solidarity with Romania and expressed my condolences to those affected by this incident. I reaffirmed that NATO is ready to defend every inch of allied territory. We will continue to strengthen our readiness to deter and defend against any threat, including drones," Rutte wrote on X.

The NATO Secretary General pointed out: "Russia's reckless behavior poses a danger to us all. They continue to attack civilians and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. And last night once again showed that the consequences of their illegal war of aggression do not end at the border."

"Russia's war must end, as must Russia's disregard for civilian safety. For our part, we will continue to strengthen our deterrence and defense at home and support Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's aggression," Rutte emphasized.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan, for his part, also reported that he "had a conversation with the NATO Secretary General following the most serious security incident on Romanian territory since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine."

"I strongly condemned this unacceptable violation of Romania's sovereignty. Full responsibility lies with the Russian Federation, whose behavior demonstrates a complete lack of respect for international law and the safety of citizens of a NATO state. I thanked the Secretary General and the allies for their solidarity and agreed to continue close coordination within NATO to strengthen our defense and the defense of the eastern flank, in particular, through anti-aircraft and anti-drone capabilities. Romania is a strong ally and will not accept that Russia's aggression against Ukraine threatens the safety of Romanian citizens," Dan emphasized.
